Most strategies fail. Most acquisitions and mergers also fail. The problem is seldom the strategy, but how it is implemented. I’ve spent over 30 years advising leaders on successful strategy implementation. And I’ve done it as a consultant and as an executive so not only have I worked with scores of organizations, but I’ve had full operational accountability for strategy implementation, organizational change and transformation.
Consulting thought-leader Alan Weiss refers to me as “The Strategic Edge,” because I provide organizations with the ability to exceed their most ambitious goals. In addition to stronger growth and improved profitability for clients, my work has led directly to client recognition including Wal-Mart Vendor of the Year and Best Places to Work. My clients have included such companies as Wm. Wrigley & Co., Wilson Sporting Goods, United Airlines, Mutual of Omaha, Paychex, as well as government and non-profits such as National Kidney Foundation and American Hospitals Association.
I worked for a global consulting firm in Chicago and a Consultants News Top 100 boutique firm in New York. In 1997 I began my own consulting firm because my innovative ideas and cutting edge strategies were too bold to be embraced by the other firms. I’ve held senior executive positions in manufacturing, broadband, and financial services companies and was on the executive turnaround team during the highly-publicized bankruptcy of Adelphia Communications Corp. I have an M.B.A. and a Masters in Communications Arts, both from the University of Wisconsin.
I’ve written for Forbes.com, B/NET and others. I’ve spoken at many conferences including those for Public Broadcasting, New York State Financial Executives, and at schools such as the University of Rochester, State University of New York, and Fordham University; and as an adjunct faculty member at Rochester Institute of Technology; and at industry conferences including Public Broadcasting’s National Conference and New York State Financial Executives Conference. And my work was presented to an annual conference of the Academy of Management.
I currently serve on the boards of The McKenzie Institute, Electri-Cord Manufacturing Co. and Kidney Cares. Personally, I enjoy sailing where both my strategic abilities and tactical skills help me see interesting places while having a fabulous time with friends and family. I also enjoy golf despite my undeniably mediocre game.
